If you're winding braided fishing line on your reel for the first time and wondering if the knots you've been tying in monofilament and flourocarbon line for years will still work, the answer is yes, but with a few modifications. While braid is generally stronger and has less stretch than mono or flouro line, it doesn't hold knots quite as well as other line. With that in mind, always do the max amount of wraps recommended by the videos below to make sure the knot in your braid will stay put. We'll walk you through three of the most common fishing knots that every angler should know how to tie.

How to Tie a Double Uni Knot

Double uni knots are great for tying your braided fishing line to a monofilament or fluorocarbon leader. Many anglers fear that braid doesn’t disappear in the water well and can spook fish if they see the line, but tying on a monofilament or fluorocarbon leader allows you to present the bait more naturally with almost no risk of the fish spotting the line. This video walks you through how to tie a double uni knot

How to Tie a Uni Knot

Uni knots are great for tying braid to one side of a swivel allowing you to transition to a monofilament or fluorocarbon leader on the other side of the swivel. When tying a uni knot with braided line, we recommend doing the max number of wraps recommended in the video below to ensure the knot won’t come undone.

How to Tie a Palomar Knot

This knot is easy to tie and very strong, making it the go-to for many anglers for tying on hooks and lures. While many anglers opt to tie on mono or flouro leader to braided line and then tie terminal tackle to the end of the leader, you can tie terminal tackle directly to your braided line with a palomar knot as well. Watch the video below to learn how to tie it.
