Getting offline and getting on the water is great, but if you've ever tried to work remotely or catch the game on a long trip, you know how limited options can be. With cell service dropping about 10-15 miles offshore and most satellite internet providers not being usable on boats, the internet options for boaters used to be slim, but it’s not anymore. As SpaceX has expanded their Starlink satellite constellations and developed kits specifically for marine use, it’s easier than ever for boaters to stay connected from almost anywhere. Whether you’re catching up with family, streaming or working remote, Starlink makes it all possible.

We’ll run you through the most common questions our crew members get and help you decide if Starlink is right for your boat.

Does Starlink for Boats Work While Moving?

Yes, it does! Starlink’s High Performance Kit and Standard Kit both work while your boat is moving or stationary.

Find the Right Starlink Kit for Your Boat

Starlink Standard Kit

Starlink Standard kit. No contracts, pause and resume service any time. Includes a gen 3 router, which can connect to up to 235 devices. High-speed, low latency internet while docked and in motion.

Flat High Performance Kit

Starlink flat high performance kit. Able to connect to more satellites for consistent connectivity while on the go. Designed for permanent installation and performs better in extreme environments. Maintain uninterrupted connection with satellites even with cessel roll or pitch.

How Much Does Starlink for Boats Cost?

After you buy your kit, Starlink runs on a month to month service plan that can be canceled or paused at any time. Currently the mobile priority plan that provides ocean and global coverage starts at $250 per month. Find more Starlink service plans here.

What Areas Does Starlink Cover?

Starlink makes it easy to stay connected from basically anywhere.

Starlink has global coverage making it perfect for campers, RVs or home use if you live in a remote area. It also delivers connectivity to the vast majority of the Earth’s rivers, lakes and oceans making it perfect for boaters.

Does Starlink Need to Be Professionally Installed?

No, all the Starlink kits we carry are designed for easy self-installation. If you don't feel comfortable tackling the install yourself though, you can use our Find a Pro feature to find a professional installer near you.

How Fast is Starlink Internet?

Starlink can reach download speeds of 220+ MBPS, upload speeds of 25+ MBPS and latency lower than 99ms, which is way ahead of other satellite networks. Unlike traditional satellite internet that is often much slower than a fiber or cable connection, Starlink utilizes low earth orbit (LEO) satellites meaning that the signal travel distance is much shorter leading to faster speeds and lower latency.

What Are You Waiting For?

If you've ever wanted the freedom of being on your boat with the ability to easily connect with family on land, there's no better time to make it happen. With easy installation, relatively low start up costs and the ability to pause service at any time, Starlink is a no brainer for boaters.
