Very great rope used for life lines

I used this for my life lines after reading the article in .goodoldboat magazine. The are a lot stronger than the steel wire and are nicer on the hand. I chose the new england brand because the bremel splice does not require any whipping.

STAINS THE BOAT!

I made a nice set of sheets for my Asym spinnaker on my 34' cruising sailboat, with additional cover and core to thicken at the winches. The work GREAT! Unfortunately, I used red. I now have red stains on my jib suncover, red stains on the leach of my main, red stains on my main boom, red stains ...

Comments about HTS 75 Dyneema Single Braid Line

I have been using this 3/16" dyneema to make soft shackles and loops for girth hitches. It works well, is very strong, and is good quality. The price was on the higher end of the spectrum.

I have a 18' Drascombe lugger which I have sailed for twenty years. Am considering replacing the shrouds(currently wire) with Dyneema. Please advise size and practicality. Also can I order with pre eyed lengths? Would also like to replace furling line which is 1/8th inch...reccomended product for this application?

It was suggested in a forum to use this product for winch to swing keel line. If I did use it, can a loop be made for attachment with a swaged ferrule?

Q
I have a 50ft sailboat with a vinyl covered steel wire to roll in the jib. It rusted at a break in the vinyl and broke. Can I replace with this rope?
Asked by Robert
Product OwnerSure, you could use it for a jib furler. It would probably get the job done because Dyneema is incredibly strong. There are easier choices, however. Dyneema is very slippery and it is hard to tie a non-slip knot with it, so regular bowlines don't work. You'd need to learn a new knot like an E-Star Hitch or some variation on a Buntline Hitch to tie it to anything, or you could splice it to fasten it to the drum. Additionally, it won't cleat or winch very well at all. Last, it chafes more than a covered line, so if there's any deck hardware or aggressive non-skid between the cockpit and the furler, it will wear pretty quickly. I would recommend replacing a furler line with some type of low-stretch line that is good for halyards like StaySet-X (which is moderately priced BTW; or perhaps you can find some Dyneema core line that has a pliable outer cover. Don't get me wrong, it's a great kind of rope, stronger than equivalent diameter stainless cable, it's just not terribly easy to work with and it takes moderately advanced knotwork or splicing to put a durable knot in it. Hope this helps. JWas this answer helpful to you
